FEATURED TEAM: HONOLULU GALAXY FC

The Honolulu Galaxy Futbol Club (“HGFC”) is a small, independent, non-profit soccer club located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Founded in 2008, HGFC is dedicated to positively influencing the lives of young athletes by providing quality soccer instruction and training enabling players to compete at a high level; promoting teamwork, leadership and good sportsmanship; and developing social entrepreneurship through commitment to community service. Among other things, our teams have adopted parks, organized book drives for families in low-income housing, collected and distributed donations for a local homeless community and assisted with the restoration and maintenance of an ancient Hawaiian fishpond.

Living on an island, every place seems far away. There is no better example of this than the 4,000 mile trip the team expects to make from Honolulu to Minnesota, and they are proud to be sending the U13 boys’ team to Schwan’s USA CUP; the team’s first out-of-state, international competition.  Traveling with a contingent of 30 players and family members, they also look forward to sharing the “Spirit of Aloha” with tournament attendees and players from all over the world.

HGFC had very humble beginnings. In 2008, its first year of operation, HGFC fielded just one boys’ team that competed in the Hawaii Youth Soccer Association (“HYSA”).  One year later, HGFC now fields three youth teams (Girls U9, Boys U12 and Boys U13) in HYSA and recently established its Quasar Program - a series of skills training and development modules for the youngest collection of budding soccer stars ranging in age 4 to 6 years old.  Before the summer of 2010, HGFC expects to add two more squads (Girls U8 and Boys U9) to its growing roster of competitive soccer teams.
