Bev Mink – USA CUP Volunteer Since 1985
We honor the memory of Bev Menk, a beloved long-time volunteer whose contributions to USA CUP began in 1985 and continued for nearly four decades. Bev served in many roles over the years — as a tournament founder, steering committee member, college coaches program coordinator, registration volunteer, and host family. She believed deeply in the power of the tournament not only to provide high-level competition for young players, but also to energize the local business community and foster lasting connections.
A dedicated presence year after year, Bev welcomed the tournament’s growth with enthusiasm. She knew that when USA CUP expanded from seven to 10 days, there would be additional opportunities for people to come together, enjoy the spirit of competition, and — most important — join in more social gatherings and coaches’ parties.
As youth sports evolved and the aspirations of young athletes rose ever higher, Bev remained grounded in the game’s most important values. She appreciated the spirit of a well-played match and embodied the value of building friendships with fellow competitors. Her legacy lives on through her husband, children, and grandchildren, who continue to be active in both soccer and USA CUP, and through the many prized friendships she built at the tournament.
For those who miss Bev’s familiar face at registration or her laughter at social events, we hope you’ll honor her memory by doing something she believed to be important to the game. Introduce yourself to an opposing parent, attend a social gathering, or compliment a team on a game well played — even if it’s the team that just beat yours.
